Removal of the lens (without a cataract present) and insertion of appropriate powered lens to give good vision without glasses.
When an eye is long sighted or short sighted, the individual has to wear thick glasses or contact lenses. One way to deal with this is to remove the lens, just as is done for a cataract, but replace it with an implant that is worked out for the power of the eye. This does away with the need to wear glasses or contact lenses and can be tailored for distant vision, near vision or one eye for distant or one for near (monovision).
